The COSMOS label, a must in cosmetics<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The COSMOS Standard was born from the international collaboration between several actors committed to the promotion of more natural and environmentally friendly cosmetic products:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BDIH: a German association of companies in the health, cosmetics and wellness sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cosm\u00e9bio: a French association created by companies and laboratories to promote the development of organic cosmetics<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ecocert: a French certification, consultancy and training company, committed since its creation to the promotion of organic farming and eco-responsible practices\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ICEA : an Italian non-profit certification institute that defends and promotes respect for the environment and organic farming<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Soil Association : a British association created by farmers opposed to the principles of intensive agriculture.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The COSMOS-standard AISBL is an independent, non-profit organisation based in Brussels and has become a key European player in promoting more natural and environmentally friendly cosmetics.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The two labels set up by COSMOS <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">give visibility to brands and products that respect strict specifications:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COSMOS NATURAL<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COSMOS ORGANIC\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3677\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sophim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Pot-creme-hydratante-nature-.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sophim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Pot-creme-hydratante-nature-.png 657w, https:\/\/www.sophim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/Pot-creme-hydratante-nature--300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #6e9dd4;\">2. The COSMOS certification process<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brands that comply with the COSMOS standard can obtain the certification by approaching an approved certification body. Several certification bodies can deliver the COSMOS NATURAL and COSMOS ORGANIC labels in France:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BUREAU VERITAS : <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bureauveritas.fr\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">www.bureauveritas.fr<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ECOCERT : <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecocert.com\/en\/home\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">www.ecocert.com\/en\/home<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">COSMECERT : <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.cosmecert.fr\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/en.cosmecert.fr\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The certification can be given to a finished product or an ingredient intended for the elaboration of a cosmetic formulation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The certification<\/span><b> allows a logo to be affixed to the marketed products<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The logo consists of the acronym of the certifying body, accompanied by the words COSMOS ORGANIC or COSMOS NATURAL.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3638 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sophim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ecocert-cosmos-min.jpg\" alt=\"ecocert cosmos\" width=\"521\" height=\"291\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sophim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ecocert-cosmos-min.jpg 521w, https:\/\/www.sophim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/ecocert-cosmos-min-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 521px) 100vw, 521px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consumers, who are increasingly well informed through the media, blogs and social networks, can thus recognise and authenticate items that meet their expectations and environmental commitments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The list of certification bodies, as well as the documents describing the requirements of the COSMOS standard, are available on the organisation&#8217;s official website: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cosmos-standard.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">https:\/\/www.cosmos-standard.org\/<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #6e9dd4;\">3. COSMOS NATURAL label criteria<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>The COSMOS NATURAL label <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">promotes environmentally friendly cosmetic products, whose formulation is essentially based on ingredients of natural origin:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No elements from the petrochemical industry (parabens, phenoxyethanol, synthetic perfumes and dyes), only a restrictive list of approved ingredients and preservatives is allowed, before guaranteeing the final quality and stability of the products;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No plant ingredients obtained from genetically modified organisms (GMOs) ;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Production and processing methods that respect human health and the environment;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Respect for biodiversity and responsible use of natural resources;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adherence to the principles of green chemistry, with the use of products and processes that limit the use of dangerous substances at all stages;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Packaged in a recyclable container.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The COSMOS NATURAL certification recognises the <\/span><b>natural character of a cosmetic product<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. However, it does not allow natural ingredients from organic farming to be promoted.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #6e9dd4;\">4. COSMOS ORGANIC label criteria<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>The COSMOS ORGANIC label<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> guides consumers towards organic cosmetic products. The specifications stipulate that:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">95% of the plants in the formula are organically grown;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">20% organic ingredients are included in the formula (10% for rinse-off products).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minerals and water are ingredients of natural origin, but they cannot be certified organic. This is because they are not derived from agricultural production.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #6e9dd4;\">5.
